How To Download an MP3 File These days I mostly send out MP3 files, a universal format to record audio files. You will receive your reading and/or any lecture recordings in this format unless you request otherwise. I still make CDs but prefer not to. If your reading was between 2004 and today then I have a digital copy archived (with very few exceptions) and can instantly send it to you again if you need it. Step 1 Determine what kind of a computer you have. For a PC (for instance Dell, Toshiba, Sony, Acer etc) continue to Step 2, for a Mac (Apple's line of computers) go to Step 9
Step 2 You will receive an email from me with the subject heading "Your Recording". Click on the email to open it and it should look something like this. If it doesn't and several of the graphics are missing, go to Step 3, else click where noted and go to Step 4.
Step 3 If your opened email looks like this, you have an email graphics blocker that is preventing the graphics of the email from showing. To resolve this, click where indicated and go to Step 4.
Step 4 Click on the "Download" button.
Step 5 Click on the "Save" button.
Step 6 Select where you want to save the file on your computer. The easiest is if you click on the indicated "Desktop" button. Your list of files may look slightly different than the below image but the desktop button is in the same place.
Step 7 This is what it looks like while the file is being downloaded to your computer. This snapshot was taken as 47% of the file had been downloaded. When the download is finished, you will hear a "bing" if your sound is turned on and the insert window with the moving bar will disapear.
Step 8 Close all open windows. On your desktop you will find your file as an icon with your name and the date as indicated in Step 2. In our example here the file (and icon) would be labeled SallySample121710. Click on it to play it with whatever MP3 player you have. The MP3 player is the software that knows how to play your MP3 file so that you can hear it over your computer speakers. Unless you removed it off your computer, there is one of several available installed on your PC. If you don't have one, there are several free players, here is the link to a very good one.
TIPS: You can make a CD from your MP3 file, transfer it to any MP3 player (there is probably one on your phone, or you may have an iPod etc), or send it on to someone else to hear your reading if you want. Helping you with these steps is best left up to someone familiar with your system.
